President Trump signed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 (TCJA) into law on December 22, 2017, marking the largest change to U.S. tax policy since the 1980s. With most of the provisions already in effect, it’s important that real estate and construction executives are aware of the changes to better understand the impact to their companies. During the chat, Scott will discuss the key provisions affecting the real estate and construction industries. Scott will also discuss Opportunity Zones, which were created by TCJA. Opportunity Zones could have the potential to be the nation’s largest tool for economic development and create a meaningful tax deferral/savings mechanism for taxpayers.
Scott Warren joined the Firm in 2002 and is a Member of the Firm’s Tax Division. He has more than 18 years of experience in the field of public accounting and is responsible for supervising and managing corporate, individual and partnership taxation, as well as business and individual tax consulting for his clients. Scott is also involved with teaching continuing professional education courses to members of Warren Averett and speaks at trade associations such as the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) and the Home Builders Association. Scott received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of West Florida, and is on the board of many community organizations including the Pensacola Museum of Art; Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida; Arts, Culture, and Entertainment, Inc.; Fiesta of Five Flags Association; and NAIOP.
